Services as a Foundation for Reentry
GEO Reentry Services works with the Idaho Department of Correction to develop recidivism reduction programs that help strengthen communities by offering a range of essential services to program participants. These services are delivered in-person as well as in remotely via teleconference capabilities.
Our Services
Cognitive Behavioral Treatment (CBT): A core element of the CIS programs is cognitive behavioral treatment, which focuses on changing belief systems and decision-making that leads to criminal behavior. GEO Reentry provides CBT in group settings and individually. Groups allow for peer interaction and support, while individual treatment sessions allow case managers to work independently with participants on specific issues.
Motivational Interviewing: A cognitive behavioral strategy initially developed to work with substance users, this communication style avoids confrontation and arguing, instead using open-ended questions, affirmations and reflective listening.
Moral Reconation Therapy® (MRT): This systematic form of cognitive behavioral treatment features curricula and interpersonal exercises designed to increase moral reasoning, adjust antisocial thought processes and teach decision-making skills.
On-site Cognitive Behavior Lab: The lab provides a place where participants can use the computer to complete on-site homework activities and find resources to aid in their progress, including GED preparation. Individuals can receive additional staff or peer support while working in the lab.
Substance Use Education, Treatment and Counseling: GEO Reentry case managers develop individualized treatment plans for each participant that follow a cognitive behavioral curriculum designed to promote life balance, teach anger management, explore motivation for change and encourage interpersonal relationships. Staff also perform drug and alcohol tests to ensure participants comply with supervision requirements.
Life Skills: These sessions cover topics relevant to many program participants, including anger management, substance use issues, social skills, financial management and parenting skills. Participants learn strategies for dealing with others, de-escalating conflict and making positive choices.
Employment Readiness Training: Our employment specialists assist program participants in understanding the process of planning for a career, including identifying their aptitudes and interests and developing strategies for finding and retaining work that will help them stabilize in the community. Our specialists also connect with possible employers to link participants to opportunities and practice different role-play scenarios to teach participants the skills necessary to find and keep a job.
Community Connections: This service connects participants with valuable pro-social associates and resources in the community. Specialists from the community visit the CIS to share information about food and housing, health services, education, employment, proper identification, legal support, family classes, wellness, substance use and more.
Gender-Responsive Programming: GEO Reentry bases its treatment and practices on trauma-informed values that address the concerns that women often face in the criminal justice system.
Relapse Prevention and Aftercare: Participants learn to identify early warning signs and how to utilize pro-social decision-making to lower the risk of relapse. Case managers work with individuals throughout the aftercare process to maintain accountability in recovery.
Alumni Services: When participants complete the program, GEO Reentry Alumni Services provides ongoing mentorship; connections to life-long support networks and referrals; and access to community service opportunities, as well as employment, housing, and educational links.
